LIVING RIGHT Life Skills Educators Changed Lives Studies show that the abuse of drugs, alcohol and tobacco by adolescents are linked to problem behaviors to include poor academic performance at school, juvenile delinquency, and especially for boys, fights at school. With all of this in mind, the Ukhanyo Primary school asked Living Hope to help. Soon PhelisA, a grade four life skills educator, was on hand to talk to the boys and girls in Grade 7 about drugs and alcohol. After the first powerful message from Phelisa, the Principal invited her back to speak to the teachers. This is a very important part of the work of Living Hope’s Prevention program. With the impending funding cuts for vital programs such as these, Living Hope is trusting God for the funds to continue this ministry to schools. It is such a joy when we see changed lives as a result of the programs with the children. Ten year old Ricardo Carolas, known as Cardi, is a regular member of the Living Hope afternoon Club at Capricorn. A grade five student at Kleinberg Primary School, he was one of several children who received school uniforms from Living Hope in January. In response to the messages about the love of Jesus shared by the educators Cardi gave his life to Jesus Christ. The effects were huge. Seeing the change in his life, his parents came to the newly-started church at Capricorn and soon they too accepted Jesus into their lives. Now Ricardo and his younger sister live in a drastically different home-one where Jesus Christ rules!
